Today's manufacturers and retail stores offer the consumer womens sportswear that provides not only great function but also fashion. Womens sportswear lines are often advertised as comfortable clothing offering durability with style. The active woman will buy specific high performance womens sportswear to wear during such activities as aerobics, exercise training classes, running, yoga, golf, tennis, skiing, rock climbing, and the list goes on. Other women buy womens sportswear to fit a casual life style and make a fashion statement. We live in a world that likes to "do it all" each day. Alo womens sportswear products are functional for a long hike or an hour on the treadmill, but stylish enough to wear in your daily routine. The consumer of today doesn't give it a second thought about the wide-ranging availability of womens sportswear. But this phenomenon, womens sportswear, was not always available.

Early in the 20th century it was not considered important for women to win at competitive sports and so womens sportswear was not designed to give the movement that would allow them to excel. With the influence of the early feminine liberation movement on women's fashions that resulted in the corset being discarded, as well as the beginning of the 1920s decade of frivolity, abundance and happy-go-lucky attitudes, women's fashion became less formal. Women exposed their arms and legs, flattened their chests and bobbed their hair to look boyish. By the 1920s women wearing trousers had become an acceptable fashion, but only under certain situations. During World War 1 women workers in munitions factories had worn trousers beneath their overalls. After The Great War they kept trousers for private wear at home. Although women won the right to vote, pants worn publicly were taboo, except at the beach or in the realm of sports that was beginning to accept the concept of the "athletic" woman. Finally the ease of movement needed in sports began to dictate womens sportswear fashion. For the woman who wanted to ski, the womens sportswear ski-costume, a knitted tunic over knitted trousers that fit into ankle-high ski boots, was created. Women's riding outfits similar to men's became popular. The early 1900's women golfers were allowed to have expanding pleats down the sides of their tweed jackets to prevent clothes from tearing when they did a golf swing. But it wasn't until the 1920's that the golf sweater made its way into fashion as the first casual garment for womens sportswear. Trousers were not thought acceptable everyday wear for sports until the mid thirties. By the late 1930s women wearing womens sportswear fashion were participating in a wide range of sports such as water skiing, golf, running, tennis, fishing, mountaineering, shooting, archery, fencing, skating, as well as riding and cycling which at that time were still thought of as forms of transport. Slowly womens sportswear was adapting to meet the real needs of active women.

Starting in the mid 1940's and continuing through the present, the development of a new range of synthetic fibers has drastically changed womens sportswear. The 21st century promises new fabric technology that will further enhance sports performance and will ultimately benefit womens sportswear. With the growing demand for high-tech, high-performance womens sportswear, new anti-microbial treatment, anti-pilling and water-resistant technologies have been developed. It is precisely this type of womens sportswear that AloSport.com designs and manufacturers.
